Mark Dodson’s Ephrata decimated her opponents in a May 15 maiden special weight race at
Woodbine, rolling to the lead at the top of the stretch and never looking back as she ran away
from the field to win by 9 ½-lengths on the Tapeta surface.
Ephrata broke in a bit of a tangle and was fifth of ten through the first quarter-mile. She began
to get closer while three-wide on the turn, then rushed up to the lead as she entered the home
stretch. She quickly cleared off and was under a hand ride the rest of the way, finishing up the
seven furlongs in 1:23 flat.
Ephrata, a 3year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, was stakes-placed last November in England.
She was consigned by breeder Juddmonte Farms to the December Tattersalls sale, where she
brought a winning bid of 200,000 Guineas by Ben McElroy.
Ephrata is the first named foal out of Grand Jete (GB), winner of the Eatontown S. (G3)
